SEFM Leeds Event: Sustainable Storage

SEFM held a successful event on sustainable museums storage at Leeds Discovery Centre this July.

We started with an introduction to the session looking at the key areas to consider when looking at sustainable storage. You can find the powerpoint here.

 

Collections Storage at Leeds Museums and Galleries

Ruth Leach, Exhibitions Manager, Leeds Art Gallery

Ruth then took us through Leeds Museums and Galleries' nine venues. She then discussed her experiences of exhibitions storage at Leeds, and what particularly affects her and the production of exhibitions. The powerpoint will be uploaded shortly. See photo above.

Sustainable Storage at The Whitworth

Nicola Walker, Head of Collections Care and Access, The Whitworth Art Gallery

The Whitworth reopened to the public in February 2015 after a £15m refurbishment that has opened up new spaces and has a new collections centre that employs passive environmental controls. Nicola presented on sustainable storage systems brought in as part of the redevelopment. Sustainable offsite storage at the Chadwick Resource Centre

Pierrette Squires, Bolton Library and Museum Service

Pierrette is an accredited conservator and accreditation mentor for ICON. She has been at Bolton for over 12 years. Pierrette told us about the Chadwick Resource Centre, an object store and research centre completed in Summer 2012. The powerpoint will be uploaded shortly. See photo above.

 

Leeds Discovery Centre Storage Facility Tour

Gemma gave us a tour of the storage facility at Leeds Discovery Centre, telling us about the different collections and storage methods. See photo above.
