Julie's Bicycle's 'Building Culture' event at Mac Birmingham in February 2017 followed on from their successful 'Fit for the Future' event in 2016. If you missed, it you can watch a video of the event above.
The event explored how to manage, shape, and envision our buildings and venues. Their energy use is a substantial proportion of the sector’s environmental impact, and also an area with scope for significant financial savings. In both intangible and tangible ways, our built cultural estate outlines the creative industries’ relationship to the environment.
Key questions we must ask as a sector are: What and who are we building for? What are the values we are constructing culture around? How do we build something to last that can still be flexible to respond to the changing world around it? How do we re-fit and re-imagine existing spaces to create resilience?
